Cold Mega

COLD MEGA is here! Justice Tripp has announced his new project and surprise released COLD MEGA’s self-titled debut album. Known for his work in Angel Du$t and Trapped Under Ice, Tripp has earned a reputation as of the most daring musicians to come out of the world of modern hardcore. The Baltimore-based multi-instrumentalist has always been pushing boundaries and expanding what punk music can be, and now with COLD MEGA he’s branched out beyond guitar music altogether into a whole new realm that can contain any and all of his musical whims.

Drawing on elements of electronic, punk, dub, and more, COLD MEGA is an opportunity for Tripp to dive headfirst into the production side of music and its unlimited possibilities. “Production is more about perspective than genre. I want to make music that is less about style, but the way I see the world,” Tripp explains. “COLD MEGA is a way for me to use every tool possible to create the sounds in my weird little brain–nothing standing in the way of me making something authentic to myself, for better or worse.”

Predominantly recorded on his own and then mixed by Paul Mercer and mastered by Tony Eichler, COLD MEGA’s self-titled debut is eight songs of head-nodding beats colliding with synths, guitars, and of course, Tripp’s uniquely hooky vocal cadences. Tracks like “LOVERBOY” or “DON’T LET ME GO” blend acoustic guitars and big melodies with electronic flourishes, while elsewhere “COME TOGETHER” or “FLOATING” go heavy on the bouncing drum machines and head trip production. There’s even electro-punk freakouts like the dynamic “MAKE YOU CRY” or the charging “NO SUM” which features guest vocals from Militarie Gun’s Ian Shelton. The songs on COLD MEGA are as wide-ranging as they are catchy, proving once again that while Tripp might like to keep listeners on their toes, they always can rely on him to be interesting.
